Catharine McNally founded Keen Guides with her vision to create more mainstream accessible experiences for everyone. Deaf since eight months old, she’s a tireless advocate for her peers through her Board services for the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and the National Cued Speech Association. At Keen, Catharine focuses on the market strategy and all aspects of video production and distribution.
She’s a big fan of Super Mario Wii, tending her garden, and taking creative photographs. Catharine seldom boasts her marksman skill with a world-class antique Browning. While she always gets the clay targets, she misses the real birds on purpose.
Karen Borchert has been in the startup world for 10 years, but she got an early start with her first business at age 11 – a neighborhood summer camp where she discovered that babysitting 10 kids was more lucrative than caring for 2. More recently, she cofounded and led an award-winning nonprofit organization (The Campus Kitchens Project) for eight years before joining Keen Guides. Every day at Keen, she utilizes her wealth of experience in business strategy and strategic partnership development to move Keen forward.
To add to her list of talents, she’s an accomplished cook, and a semi-retired amateur caterer and pasta chef. Clients of her fledgling culinary career include friends, houseguests, her husband and two kids, and on a bad day...her two dogs.
Martin Franklin and Karen worked together on the Keen Guides idea in its earliest days at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown. With a real knack for numbers and an international advisory services organization under his belt, Martin brought great balance to the Keen Guides team. To add to that, he’s a world traveler – hailing from South Africa – and can share the perspectives of a foreign traveler. With his background in industrial engineering and technology management, Martin is able to steer Keen’s technology development, the finances, and importantly all things legal.
When Martin isn’t at Keen, you can find him hacking away on the golf course or exploring the neighborhood parks with his wife and two kids.
